Dyllan Roof sentenced to death

Image
A federal jury Tuesday sentenced Dylann Roof to death for killing nine black church members in Charleston, S.C. in a racially motivated attack in 2015. Roof, who is white, faced either life in prison or execution for the slayings on June 17, 2015. The Justice Department said he is the first person to get the death penalty for federal hate crimes. The jury reached the unanimous decision after about three hours of deliberations. In his closing argument on Tuesday, Roof denied that he was filled with hatred. “Wouldn’t it be fair to say that the prosecution hates me because they’re trying to give me the death penalty?” Roof asked rhetorically. “Anyone who hates anything, in their mind has a good reason for it. And sometimes that’s because they’ve been misled and sometimes it isn’t. But I would say that in this case the prosecution, along with anyone else who hates me, are the ones who have been misled.” Acting as his own attorney, Roof concluded his closing argument after only five minutes...

Breaking news! JUSTIN BIEBER INDICTED IN ARGENTINA FOR BEATING, STEALING

Image
Justin Bieber was just indicted for allegedly ordering a beatdown on a photog in Argentina and then stealing his money and gear. A judge in Buenos Aires just dropped the hammer against the pop star for the 2013 incident. Bieber has maintained all along this case is a bunch of nothing and the judge is a lone wolf who has been out to get him. Until the case is resolved, Bieber cannot return to Argentina, because he'll be arrested. Our sources say Bieber has a plan. His lawyers will appeal the indictment, hoping that the appeals court judges will see the indictment for what it is -- a publicity grab by the judge -- and throw the case out. The problem for Bieber ... he's about to start his South American tour and Argentina is by far the biggest market and his biggest fan base on the continent. As one Bieber source put it, "The judge is screwing his own country because Justin could infuse a huge amount of money into the economy."

Mexico fireworks blast: Bodies too charred to identify

The bodies of some of the 31 people killed in an explosion at a fireworks market outside Mexico City are so badly charred that neither their age nor gender can immediately be determined, the state prosecutor has said. Alejandro Gomez said that, so far, only 13 bodies had been identified. He said forensic experts were now carrying out DNA tests to identify the blackened remains of the dead. More than 70 people were also injured when the explosion happened. Among them were three badly burned children who are due to be taken to a hospital in the US for treatment. The site of the market resembled a wasteland on Wednesday The blast and accompanying series of smaller explosions caused devastation at the San Pablito fireworks market in Tultepec, located close to Mexico City. It is estimated that about 80% of some 300 stalls in the market were destroyed. An investigation into the causes has been ordered by the attorney general's office. It said the incident began with six initial explos...

Dozens killed in explosion at fireworks market outside Mexico City

Image
TULTEPEC, Mexico -- A powerful chain-reaction explosion ripped through Mexico's best-known fireworks market on the northern outskirts of the capital Tuesday, killing at least 29 people, injuring scores more and sending a huge plume of charcoal-grey smoke billowing into the sky. Video of the blast showed a dramatic staccato of rockets exploding in flashes of light, levelling the open-air San Pablito Market in Tultepec in Mexico State as it bustled with shoppers stocking up on fireworks to celebrate Christmas and New Year's. Vendors' stands were reduced to piles of rubble, ash, and charred metal. It was the third devastating explosion and fire to ravage the market since 2005 and officials still have not said what caused this latest blast. Crescencia Francisco Garcia said she was in the middle of the grid of stalls along with a few hundred others when the thunderous explosions began. She froze, reflexively looked up at the sky and then took off running through the smoke once...
